KARACHI: The accused in the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in the city’s Federal B area pleaded guilty to the crime in the Judicial Magistrate’s Court, here on Monday.

During the hearing of a case related to the rape and murder of a minor, the police produced the accused before the court where he recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Code (CrPC).

After pleading guilty, the court ordered Naseer, a rickshaw driver and a neighbour of the victim, to be jailed.

The accused had already confessed to the crime on October 10 — a day after the girl’s body was found near his home on October 9 morning.

The police said that he put the victim’s body in a sack before dumping it on the road. The locals handed him over to the police.

The infant’s body was found in a street near his residence in Gulberg. A dupatta was tied around her neck as a noose – suggesting she may have been strangled.

According to the police, the picture of the accused has been obtained from the CCTV footage. In the footage, the accused was seen putting the victim’s body in a sack.

Police officials also said that the post-mortem report confirmed the rape of the toddler, and the suspect is being questioned as part of the investigation into the case.

After the body of the victim was found a day ago, she was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal proceedings.

According to police, the little girl – identified as Amina – was the youngest of six siblings and her father is currently in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

The girl followed her siblings around 7:15 a.m. as they left for school and was found dead a short distance from her home at 7:30 a.m., police said.
