SBP announces bank holidays for Eidul Fitr 2025

KARACHI: In light of Eidul Fitr 2025, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a schedule of holidays for all banks across Pakistan.

According to the notification issued by the  State Bank of Pakistan, the bank will remain closed from 31st March to 2nd April 2025 (Monday to Wednesday), being a public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, because Saturday and Sunday are weekly off, bank staff will have a five-day respite. On April 3, all Pakistani banks will reopen.

Earlier, the Sindh government announced the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays 2025.

According to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department of the Sindh government, the Eidul Fitr 2025 holidays will be observed from Monday (March 31) to April 2.

Eidul Fitr is expected to be observed across Pakistan on Monday, March 31, 2025, following the completion of 29 days of Ramadan.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees are set to convene on Sunday evening, March 30, 2025 (corresponding to Ramazan 29, 1446 AH), to sight the Shawwal moon.

Religious scholars, meteorologists, and officials will meet at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad to review moon sighting reports from all of Pakistan.

The sighting of the new moon defines the lunar months of the Islamic calendar, including Ramadan, Eid, and Muharram.

The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) uses scientific methods, astronomical calculations, and advanced technology to forecast the appearance of the Ramadan and Shawwal crescents.

Astronomically, the Shawwal moon is likely to be visible on March 30, suggesting that Eid ul Fitr will most certainly fall on March 31, 2025.
