Schedule for by-elections on 81 local government seats in Balochistan released, polling to be held on August 9

QUETTA: The Election Commission has released the schedule for by-elections on 81 vacant local government seats in Balochistan. These elections will be held in 20 districts of the province, while polling will be on August 9, 2026.

According to the program issued by the Election Commission, candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers from July 1 to July 3, while the scrutiny of these papers will be completed from July 6 to 8.

According to officials, the initial list of candidates will be released on July 9, while appeals against the decisions of the returning officers can be filed from July 10 to 13, and decisions on the appeals will be announced by July 16.

According to the Election Commission, the revised list of candidates will be released on July 17, while the final list of candidates and election symbols will be allotted on July 20, after which the election campaign will officially begin.

The Election Commission has directed the concerned election staff to complete all arrangements in a timely manner and reiterated its commitment to holding transparent, free and fair elections.

The by-elections will see the election of new public representatives to vacant seats, after which the functioning of the concerned local bodies is expected to become more effective.
