PESHAWAR: The law-and-order situation in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains critical as a lieutenant colonel along with his two brothers were abducted from Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday evening.

A report shared by a newspaper said that a state agency officer and his two siblings were abducted from a mosque.

The official and his brother were sitting in the mosque after their father’s burial when a group of armed men abducted them.

The report further states that the local police and other concerned authorities have not responded to queries regarding the incident. Authorities are expected to launch a high-level investigation into the matter.

Over the past week, Pakistani forces have carried out several operations in the Khyber region, resulting in the killing of at least 25 militants, while four soldiers have also lost their lives in these operations.

The operations were initiated in response to local residents’ concerns over the re-emergence of outlawed gangs.
