Senior journalist among others dies in Khuzdar blast

KHUZDAR: At least three people including senior journalist Maulana Siddique Mengal were killed and nine injured in a remote-controlled explosion on Sultan Ibrahim Road in Balochistan’s Khuzdar District on Friday.

According to the police, the suspects targeted the vehicle of Khuzdar Press Club president Maulana Siddique Mengal when he was going to university from his home. The injured were shifted to a civil hospital.

Police said that the journalist — who was associated with a local newspaper — escaped an assassination attempt a few months ago.’

Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and started an investigation. Journalists and media organizations are celebrating World Press Freedom Day today.

Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau strongly condemned the Khuzdar blast and directed the relevant authorities to present a report.
