BANNU: At least seven policemen were abducted when unidentified gunmen ambushed a police check post in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday, police said.
As per the details, police identified them as Saleem, Aqal Rahman, Mewa Jan, Roshaan, Abdul Malik, Naimatullah, and Shad Muhammad. A search operation is underway in the area to locate and recover them.
The policemen were picked up from a police station in Ahmadzai subdivision.
The attack took place in broad daylight at the Rocha police post in Bannu sub-division of Wazir. The armed assailants stormed the post, overpowered the policemen and fled.
They also snatched all the weapons and equipment.
The authorities noted that the Bannu Rocha post is located in a “remote part” of the subdivision, stressing their determination for the early recovery of the abducted officials.
In September, gunmen abducted Assistant Sub-Inspector Sakhi Zaman from the Circular Road in Bannu. Their release was secured after a tribal jirga, comprising elders and religious scholars, also engaged in search efforts.
Islamabad has seen a surge in militancy since the Afghan Taliban came to power in 2021, and has accused Kabul’s rulers of failing to root out TTP members who were preparing attacks from their soil.
