ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s aviation sector kept getting hit by big disruptions on Sunday, as at least 83 domestic and international flights got cancelled across the country, while only 430 flights managed to get through in the last 24 hours, as per aviation sources.
Officials stated that the cancellations happened due to administrative and operational causes, and this in turn affected travellers at major airports, including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Quetta, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Sukkur, and Gilgit.
Based on the most recent flight-running data, Karachi handled 123 flights, Islamabad operated 134 flights, and Lahore managed 100 flights during the reporting window.
At the same time, Multan ran 23 flights, Peshawar handled 16, Sialkot saw 20, Faisalabad handled four, and Quetta handled 10 flights. Also, five flights each from Quetta and Faisalabad were cancelled, while four flights from Peshawar and two flights each from Sukkur and Gilgit were scrapped.
More than 20 Jeddah flights were cancelled due to Low Passenger Load. Aviation authorities also noted that over 20 flights travelling to and from Jeddah were cancelled because of lower-than-usual passenger load, showing a slowdown in travel demand on the crowded Saudi Arabia route that is often used by Pakistani expatriates and Umrah pilgrims.
This disruption is coming while tighter aviation safety measures, plus operational tweaks, are being carried out across Pakistan’s airports.
