ISLAMABAD: (Rana Farrukh Saeed)- The sexual harassment petition filed against former Consul General of Pakistan Consulate Barcelona Mirza Salman Baig has been dismissed due to lack of evidence, the Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment announced the decision.
The petition was filed by Amna Umar, an employee of the Pakistan Consulate Barcelona, in October 2022. She alleged that during her posting at the consulate from January to July 2025, she faced repeated sexual harassment.
According to her complaint, she was given extra work, and Salman Baig would ask her to smoke cigarettes or put them in her mouth and return them. She also claimed that she was forced to alone with him at various time and face inappropriate remarks about her clothing.
In his written defence, Salman Baig denied the allegations, claiming that the complaint was triggered by Amna Umar’s dismissal from the consulate.
After detailed legal proceedings, which included written statements, cross-examination, and testimony of witnesses, The Federal Ombudsman concluded that the complaint under the Protection from Harassment Act 2010 could not be substantiated with substantial evidence.
There was no corroborating evidence in this case, no forensic support, and no clear or consistent testimony from witnesses to substantiate the allegations, on the basis of which the Federal Ombudsman dismissed the application.
