Sindh bans pillion riding, drone use on Chehlum of Imam Hussain

KARACHI: The Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province in a bid to avoid any untoward incident during the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

Following the request from IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Sindh Home Department imposed a ban on motorcycle pillion riding in various districts of the province to ensure the security and safety of the mourners during the Chehlum processions and gatherings, scheduled for August 26.

The notification by the Sindh Home Department stated that the ban on pillion riding will be in effect in the South Zone of Karachi from August 25 to 27. In the East Zone, the ban will be observed on August 26, while in the West Zone, it will be in place on August 25 and 26.

Moreover, it was decided that the ban in Hyderabad and Thatta will be applicable on August 25 and 26, and in Dadu and Sajjawal from August 25 to 27.

Furthermore, the pillion riding ban will be imposed in Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar district on August 26. In the Sukkur Range, it will be imposed from August 24 to 26, in District Khairpur from August 24 to 29, and in Ghotki on August 26.

Provincial government has barred pillion riding in District Larkana on August 26, and in the districts of Kamber, Jacobabad, and Kashmore from August 25 to 26.  Additionally, the government also banned the use of drones, citing security concerns during the Chehlum.

The event marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the martyrdom date of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in 680 AD. Mourning processions with Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah would be taken out in different cities across the province.
