KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet took an important decision to grantfive-year age concession to government job aspirants during a meeting with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The cabinet move follows the previous abolition of a 15-year age concession policy for government employment, and it is meant to respond to the plight of those who were previously disqualified on grounds of age.

The session, which included provincial ministers, advisors, and secretaries, also witnessed the passage of the Universities and Boards (Amendment) Bill 2025.

This legislation was earlier sent back to the Sindh Assembly by Governor Sindh due to objections raised by him on the appointment of university and education board heads.

The cabinet’s passing of the bill is an important development, as it will serve to solve the problems surrounding the appointment of university heads and educational board heads.

The step is likely to open doors for public sector employment for more persons.

It should be noted that the Sindh government previously had brought the Sindh Civil Servants (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 2024, which provided for a relaxation of the upper age limit for candidates applying for government jobs.

The new move to provide a relaxation of five years of age is an extension of this policy, and it will benefit a great number of people who are looking for jobs in the public sector.

In general, the cabinet’s move was a good one towards giving more opportunities to the Sindh people in the government sector, and it will surely have a great impact on Sindh’s job market.
