KARACHI: In a decisive move to curb fare overcharging during Eid-ul-Fitr, the Sindh government has cancelled the leaves of all officers and staff of the transport department, ensuring their availability during the festival.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, while announcing the decision on Saturday, stressed that transport officials will be on duty to monitor fares and prevent transporters from exploiting passengers. The move comes in response to persistent complaints of excessive fare hikes during the holiday season.

“Overcharging is a common problem during Eid, and we are determined to ensure that citizens are not forced to pay more than the officially approved fares,” Memon said.

Officers of the Sindh Transport Authority will be deployed across the province with regional and district transport bodies to promptly redress complaints and take strict action against those violating fare regulations.
