Sindh govt establishes five member committee to probe Lyari building collapse

KARACHI: Following the recent building collapse in Lyari, the Sindh government has established a five-member committee to investigate the causes of the incident.

The Commissioner of Karachi will head the committee, according to the official notification.

The committee’s mandate is to identify those responsible for the incident and will also put up recommendations to prevent such a situation in the future.

The committee will also make a plan to evacuate the residents from the unsafe and risky infrastructure.

Officials said the committee will investigate various aspects of the building collapse, including its approval status and any construction violations.

Furthermore, A detailed report will be submitted by the committee on unlawful and risky buildings especially in the Lyari area of Karachi.

It will also prepare a detailed report on illegal and unsafe buildings in the Lyari area, particularly those at risk of collapse.

Earlier, the rescue operation at the site of the collapsed residential building in Karachi’s Lyari area has been completed, according to the officials.

The six-storey structure came down on the morning of July 4, 2025, in the Baghdadi neighbourhood, killing 27 people and injuring eight others, including women.

According to rescue officials, all bodies have been recovered from the rubble, and heavy machinery has now been removed from the site.

The authorities informed that the district administration will seal the site where the tragedy in Karachi took place to avoid further disturbance or hazard.
