KARACHI: In a groundbreaking move, the Sindh government is set to implement a Child Protection Policy to avert violations of children’s rights through joint efforts among several provincial departments.

The policy is likely to be approved in the coming cabinet meeting on July 8. The policy will find solutions for highly important issues such as child trafficking, child marriage, child labor, children in armed conflict, child separation, alternative care, and other areas of children’s well-being and protection.

The Sindh Child Protection Authority (SCPA) will implement the policy with the help of the concerned departments.

A Child Protection Technical Working Group will be formed for the purpose of facilitating inter-departmental coordination and seamless implementation.

The social welfare department, under the draft policy accessed by The Express Tribune, will register and keep an eye on orphanages and forward cases to NADRA, which will register the children residing in them.

The College Education, Universities, and Boards Departments will include child rights and protection subjects in their curriculum. The FIA will collaborate with police, SCPA, and the social welfare department to assist recovered children from criminal gangs.
