Sindh MPAs get Rs 300,000 salary hike with committee approval

KARACHI: The salaries and allowances of the members of the Sindh Assembly have been increased after a sub-committee approved the bill.

A bill to increase the salaries of the members of the assembly was presented in the Sindh Assembly on August 8 and was unanimously approved.

After the bill was approved, a parliamentary committee was formed, headed by Speaker of the Assembly Owais Shah, while representatives of all parties, including the Leader of the Opposition Ali Khorshidi, were present.

The meeting of the parliamentary committee was held in the committee room of the Sindh Assembly.

The meeting was attended by nominated members of all parties, and after consultation with the members, it was decided to increase the salaries by 200 percent.

The PPP, MQM, and PTI supported the increase in salaries, while only the Jamaat-e-Islami opposed the increase in salaries.

At present, the salary of the members of the Sindh Assembly is Rs 155,000, including allowances, while after the decision of the committee, the salary and allowances will be approximately Rs 450,000, and the basic salary of the members of the assembly will increase from Rs 50,000 to Rs 300,000.

In addition, it has been decided to increase the office maintenance allowance to Rs 15,000, telephone allowance to Rs 10,000, house rent allowance to Rs 50,000, mobile allowance to Rs 10,000, utility allowance to Rs 20,000, daily allowance to Rs 3,000 from Rs 1,000, and conveyance allowance to Rs 3,000 from Rs 1,000.
