State Bank announces bank holidays on July 16-17

ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has declared a public holiday on 16th and 17th July 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) on the occasion of Ashura (9th and 10th Muharram 1446 A.H.), here on Tuesday.

As per the details, this announcement applies to all concerned offices, public and private sector banks and financial institutions across the country.

According to a notification issued by the State Bank on Wednesday, these holidays have been extended to ensure the religious significance of Ashura, which is observed on the 9th and 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar.

On July 18 (Thursday), normal banking operations will resume across the country. During these two days, banks will remain closed, affecting normal banking services, including transactions, withdrawals, and other financial activities.

The decision to celebrate Ashura as a public holiday signifies the State Bank’s commitment to facilitate cultural and religious celebrations within Pakistan. Its purpose is to allow employees and customers alike to participate in religious ceremonies and traditions without hindrance.

SBP encourages customers to plan their banking needs accordingly, anticipating the closure of banks on July 16 and 17. For any urgent financial matters, customers are advised to complete the transaction before the commencement of the holiday period.
