ISLAMABAD: The Sugar Advisory Board has approved the import of 500,000 tons of sugar as the prices of sugar are skyrocketing in the country, according to media reports.
A meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain.
The meeting stated that the arbitrariness of sugar mill owners was the main reason for the increase in prices. It was also decided to strictly monitor the supply of sugar and control prices.
On this occasion, Federal Minister for Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain said that the formalities related to imported sugar would be completed in a few days.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said that the decision to import sugar has become inevitable to stabilize sugar prices, as the country is facing a shortage of sugar supply.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said that urgent steps are being taken to control the shortage of sugar, and imported sugar will be brought to the market soon so that consumers can get relief.
