Sunni Ittehad not allotted reserved seats in Punjab & Sindh Assemblies so far

Lahore: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), a political ally of PTI, has yet to receive reserved seats in the Punjab and Sindh Assemblies, as reported from Islamabad. The Punjab Assembly has a total of 74 reserved seats, including 66 for women and 8 for minorities.

While notifications have been issued for 42 women’s seats, 24 remain pending. Additionally, notifications for 35 women members from Muslim League-N, 2 from Pakistan People’s Party, and 2 from Pakistan Muslim League have been released, along with 1 member from Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party. Moreover, notifications for 5 minority members from Muslim League-N have also been issued.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the reserved seats for women and minority members in the Punjab Assembly. In the Sindh Assembly, the People’s Party has been granted 20 reserved seats for women, MQM has 6, GDA has 1, and 6 seats for minorities have also been notified.

Reports suggest that the Election Commission of Pakistan will make a decision on Friday regarding the allocation of reserved seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council. Previously, PTI submitted affiliation certificates of independent members aligned with SIC to the ECP. These certificates cover 86 independent members for the National Assembly, 105 for the Punjab Assembly, 85 for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 9 for the Sindh Assembly, bolstering SIC’s representation in various legislative bodies.
