Karachi: Murad Ali Shah, a prominent figure within the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has been elected as the Chief Minister of Sindh for the third consecutive term, showcasing the enduring support his party holds for him in the political arena.

Born on August 11, 1962, in Karachi, Murad Ali Shah pursued his education diligently. He completed his high school studies at St. Patrick’s High School in 1977, followed by Intermediate studies at DJ Government Science College in 1979. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology in 1985.

Furthering his academic pursuits, Shah obtained two Master of Science degrees in Civil-Structural Engineering and Engineering Economic Systems from Stanford University, California, in 1987 and 1993 respectively.

Shah’s professional journey spanned across various sectors and countries, including Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, and the United States of America, from 1986 to 2002. He held engineering positions in notable organizations such as the Hyderabad Development Authority, Water and Power Development Authority, Port Qasim Authority, and Karachi Fish Harbor Authority. Transitioning to the financial sector, he worked as an Investment Banker at institutions like Citibank Karachi, Citibank London, Gulf Investment Corporation Kuwait, and Bizpivot USA.

Entering politics in 2002, Shah received a PPP ticket to contest for a seat in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh during the general elections. Following in his father’s footsteps, who had been a contestant and winner from 1970 to 1993 in the same constituency, Shah emerged victorious and was appointed as the Deputy Leader of the PPP Parliamentary party in the Sindh Assembly.

Shah has since maintained his political career, successfully securing provincial assembly seats in the 2008, 2013, and 2018 elections. He served as a provincial minister from 2008 to 2016, holding various portfolios including Revenue, Irrigation, Finance, Energy, and Planning and Development.
