Thirty newly elected GB members take oath

GILGIT: Thirty out of thirty-three newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly took the oath on Monday.

Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Nazir Ahmed Advocate, administered the oath to the newly elected members.

13 members of the PPP and 9 members of the (N) League took the oath, while 6 members of the Istehkam-e- Pakistan Party and one member of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) took the oath.

Independent members supported by PTI are also among those who took the oath.

The Speaker of the Gilgit Assembly adjourned the GB Assembly session till 3 pm today. The election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Leader of the House will be held in the resumed session.

It should be noted that the notification of 3 constituencies of Gilgit is pending on a court order, including 1 of Skardu and 2 of Diamer.

The official notification of 3 constituencies was stayed on a court order, and 3 members could not take the oath of their membership.

PPP’s Amjad Hussain Advocate set to secure GB Chief Ministership Unopposed

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is likely to be elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan unopposed.

According to sources, the PPP has had backdoor contacts with political parties in Gilgit-Baltistan, through which it has convinced them not to field a candidate for the Chief Minister.

Sources say that Amjad Hussain Advocate will be the PPP’s candidate for the Chief Minister. The PPP will announce the name of the Chief Minister after the swearing-in of the GB Assembly.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly session has been called for 4 pm tomorrow, but its holding is likely to be delayed.

According to sources, the names of the Chief Minister and Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan will be announced on June 22, with the decisions to be made by Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto.

Earlier, PPP sources said that the PPP leadership has given the green signal for the formation of a coalition government in GB, and sources had claimed that the Stability Pakistan Party will be part of the Gilgit-Baltistan government.
