KARACHI: A spate of violent altercations took place in Karachi in a matter of hours as three robbers were shot dead and a citizen was wounded in various encounters in the city.
A citizen, Subash Chand, was wounded as a result of a shooting during an attempted robbery near Sea View, the police stated.
The lawmen reported that dacoits were stealing a citizen when they arrived, and in response, the robbers opened fire and escaped. In the confrontation, Subash Chand was shot by the robbers and was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Police say that the dacoits also got injured in the police firing, who had left their motorcycle behind and fled towards the sea, with the police now launching a manhunt for the injured suspects.
Meanwhile, two police encounters in Korangi Industrial Area off Veta Chowrangi and Godam Chowrangi led to the murders of three robbers.
The police, who were involved in a shootout with the criminals, shot all three dead in the crossfire. The police reported recovering weapons and loot from the deceased dacoits.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar stated that the crime rate has decreased considerably in Karachi, adding that the murders in resistance against robbery have decreased by half.
Talking about the Sindh Assembly budget session, the home minister announced that mobile phone snatching incidents have also gone down. Ziaul Hassan Lanjar announced that 586 cars were stolen in Karachi last year, while 558 cars were stolen this year, which is a decrease.
He stated that 21,665 cases took place in total, which registered an improvement compared to last year. A total of more than two people were killed each day last year, while now the average has come down to one death due to criminal activities.
