ISLAMABAD: Citizens are likely to get a three-day long weekend next week as a public holiday is coinciding with weekly holidays.
According to the 2026 calendar of public holidays, May 1 has been declared a public holiday on the occasion of Mazdoor Day.
This year, May 1 falls on a Friday, while Saturday and Sunday will be the usual weekly holidays in government institutions and many private organizations.
In view of the continuous holidays, the government has issued instructions to pay the salaries of government employees in advance to ensure timely payment.
The provincial finance department has directed that salaries be paid on April 30 so that employees can get financial assistance during the long weekend, which will also include May 2 (Saturday) and May 3 (Sunday).
The Government of Pakistan has already issued an official notification of government, bank, and optional holidays for 2026, confirming May 1 as a public holiday across the country.
