DUBAI: In a significant development for Pakistani travelers and professionals, UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi announced on Tuesday that Pakistani citizens are now eligible to apply for a five-year UAE visa.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori at the Governor House Karachi in the presence of UAE Consul General Bakhit Ateeq Al Rumaithi.

This new visa option will greatly benefit those seeking long-term travel, family visits, business opportunities, or extended stays in the UAE – a country with over 1.7 million Pakistanis and one of Pakistan’s closest Gulf allies.

Ambassador Al Zaabi praised the governor’s development initiatives and stressed the strong ties between the two countries and invited him to visit the UAE Visa Centre in Karachi.

The ambassador also participated in a tree planting drive and flag hoisting ceremony, describing the moment in the guest book as a “symbol of enduring friendship” between Pakistan and the UAE.

The move follows a recent clarification from UAE authorities confirming that there are no visa restrictions for Pakistani nationals, dispelling persistent rumours circulating on social media and in some news circles.

Under the new five-year visa policy, applicants will be required to provide:

• A return ticket

• Proof of hotel booking or accommodation

• Proof of property ownership (if applicable)

• A refundable AED 3,000 deposit

The UAE authorities have tightened document checks in recent years due to previous concerns about fake documents, visa overstays and inappropriate online behaviour. The Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi is actively working with UAE authorities to address and resolve these concerns.

This development is a positive step towards ease of travel for Pakistanis while strengthening the diplomatic goodwill between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi. It will also boost tourism, business, and immigrant engagement as both countries seek deeper cooperation.
