Update on closure of educational institutions in Punjab tomorrow, May 8

LAHORE: As the tensions between Pakistan and India escalated, the educational institutions across the Punjab province, bordering India, remained closed on May 7 (today) on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif.

However, the Punjab government has not issued any directives regarding the closures of schools and colleges tomorrow (May 8).

Punjab Provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that no decision has been taken yet regarding the extension of school holidays, declaring the notification circulating on social media regarding the extension of school holidays fake.

She added that any decision to extend school holidays in Punjab would be taken based on the changing situation.

Earlier, the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) in Punjab also postponed the intermediate part 2 exams and the class 10 practical tests across the province.

But, the institution in the province was put on high alert as the government cancelled all types of leaves for the employees across all public sector departments.

The development came after India struck several locations in Pakistan, including several cities in Punjab. Places in Sialkot, Shakargarh, Bahawalpur, and Murdike.

DG ISPR said that 13 civilians, including two seven-year-old girls, seven women, and four men, were martyred in Ahmedpur Sharqia in Bahawalpur, where Masjid Subhanallah was hit.

Following the incidents, an emergency was declared in all hospitals, and law enforcement agencies and medical staff have been instructed to remain on duty. The Civil Defence Department has deployed all available resources, while a central internal security control room has been established at the Punjab Home Department.
