ISLAMABAD: The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), a platform that offers Pakistanis an oppourtunity to study abroad, rejected claims on Friday that the Fulbright Programme had been terminated.

In a statement, the USEFP stated that various US government-funded exchange programs, including the Fulbright Program, remained in effect and are still open to Pakistani students.

“Fulbright participants in the United States continue to receive stipends.” Assertions that the Fulbright Program has been discontinued or that students would be stranded in the United States are untrue,” it said.

The announcement follows the latest discontinuation of Pakistan’s Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme, which had been in existence for 15 years.

The Fulbright Programme has a strong presence in Pakistan, providing considerable financing for Master’s and PhD programs, as well as a scholarship for Foreign Language Teaching Assistants.

The organization also rejected any modifications to the status of Pakistani students already enrolled in the Global UGRAD.

It stated that 54 Pakistani students already studying in the United States under the Global UGRAD-Pakistan Programme will be able to finish their academic exchange as planned. “They [Pakistani scholars] will continue to receive their stipends and all benefits associated with the programme,” the foundation stated, allaying popular fears about potential interruptions to their studies.
