DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Wildfires erupted in the forests of the Sulaiman Range in the Dera Ismail Khan district on Wednesday night, destroying a number of valuable trees including olive and pine nuts.
The fire was burning at three to four locations along the mountain’s base and spreading further, posing a serious threat to vegetation and wildlife.
The fire rising from the mountains can be seen far from the Drazanda Tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan. Flames are visible in the village of Tajri located north of the mountain and in the Almar Kalan valley to the south of another hill.
According to the locals, the fire broke out two days ago, but in the last few hours, it has spread over several kilometers and was visible at night.
As per details, there are still no significant measures being carried out by the Wildlife and Forest Department to extinguish the fire in the Sulaiman Range.
Last year, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department said that 249 fires occurred in the province in the first half of the last year, damaging around 1,918 hectares of forest land.
