Mariyam Nafees has stirred discussion on social media after sharing candid views about the challenges women often face in joint-family households after marriage. The actor’s recent remarks about privacy and independence in married life have resonated with many across Pakistan.

During a recent interview, Mariyam spoke about how her perspective changed after marrying Amaan Ahmed in 2022 and later becoming a mother to their son, Isa. She explained that marriage and motherhood gave her a deeper understanding of the pressures placed on women, particularly daughters-in-law living in traditional family systems.

The actor said that newly married couples should ideally have their own separate living space so they can build their relationship independently. According to her, constant involvement from elders in household decisions often creates tension and unnecessary conflicts between spouses and extended family members.

Mariyam emphasized that taking care of in-laws should not automatically be considered a wife’s duty. She said such expectations should be discussed openly before marriage so both partners understand their responsibilities. If a separate house is not possible, she suggested couples should at least be given personal privacy within the same home, including their own room and kitchen area.

She also highlighted that daughters-in-law should have the freedom to manage and decorate their homes according to their own choices. Mariyam added that empowering women within households can bring positive changes to family dynamics.

Fellow actor Sharmeen Ali joined the conversation, saying many families unknowingly continue unhealthy traditions passed down from older generations. She noted that younger generations are now trying to break these patterns and create healthier family relationships.
