LAHORE: Star batter Babar Azam is reportedly set to make a return as Pakistan’s T20 International captain, with strong indications that he could replace Salman Ali Agha ahead of the team’s upcoming international assignments.

According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering a change in leadership following a review of the national team’s recent performances in the shortest format. While no official announcement has been made, sources suggest that Babar Azam has emerged as the leading candidate to take over the captaincy once again.

Babar previously led Pakistan across all three formats and guided the team to several memorable achievements, including the semi-finals of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the final of the 2022 edition. He also enjoyed one of the highest win percentages among Pakistan’s T20I captains during his previous tenure.

Salman Ali Agha, who was handed the responsibility during the team’s transition phase, is expected to continue as an important member of the squad despite the possible leadership change. The PCB is reportedly looking to strengthen the team’s preparations for major upcoming ICC tournaments and believes experienced leadership could play a crucial role.

Babar remains one of Pakistan’s most consistent batters and is regarded as one of the world’s leading T20 players. His experience, calm approach, and familiarity with the role are believed to be key factors behind the board’s reported decision.

Cricket fans have expressed mixed reactions on social media, with many welcoming the prospect of Babar’s return as captain, while others believe the PCB should continue investing in new leadership.

The PCB has yet to issue an official statement regarding the reports. An announcement is expected after internal consultations and the finalization of Pakistan’s squad for the next T20I series. Until then, the speculation surrounding the captaincy is likely to continue.
