ISLAMABAD: Imam-ul-Haq has been included as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad after the latter was ruled out due to injury.
In a media release, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy has approved Imam-ul-Haq’s inclusion.
Haq, 29, was named as a replacement after Fakhar received an oblique injury and was denied by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) medical team to play the remainder of the tournament.
“Fakhar Zaman’s injury is of a serious nature. He will not accompany the squad to Dubai for the next match,” the PCB said in a statement on Thursday.
Zaman, a hero of the Champions Trophy 2017 final, shared a heartfelt message on social media after being excluded from the ongoing tournament.
“Unfortunately I’m now out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but surely Allah is the best planner. Grateful for the opportunity. I will be backing our boys in green from home. This is only just the beginning, the comeback will be stronger than the setback,” the fierce opening batter added.
On the other hand, Imam, who has not played international cricket since 2023, will join Green Shirts ahead of their next game against India on February 23 in Dubai.
