ISLAMABAD: India has officially pulled out of the upcoming Central Asian Volleyball Championship scheduled to be held in Islamabad from May 28.

The championship faced a significant blow amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following a terror attack in Pahalgam.

The withdrawal follows the Indian government’s last-minute revocation of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) earlier granted to the team for the participation of a 30-member delegation.

The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) confirmed that they have been officially informed by their Indian counterpart.

PVF officials said that the visa application process was initiated through the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, and preliminary arrangements were made for the team’s accommodations in Islamabad.

The official has told a local publication that an alternate team will be added to fill the vacancy.

The Central Asian Volleyball Championship, set to run from May 28 to June 4 at Islamabad’s Liaquat Gymnasium in Jinnah Sports Complex.

Teams from Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan have already confirmed their participation. Sri Lanka is also expected to announce its entry in the coming days.

In a promising development, the Russian volleyball team has confirmed its visit to Pakistan in June for a series of international matches.
