LAHORE: The national cricket team suffered a major setback before the West Indies tour as team wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan and middle-order batsman Saud Shakeel were struggling with fitness issues.
According to media reports, both players could not pass the fitness test conducted by the PCB Medical Panel. The PCB Medical Panel has instructed both cricketers to further improve their fitness.
Both players will have to undergo a rehab program to become fully fit. Mohammad Rizwan joined the Red Ball camp a week late due to fitness issues.
If both players are not fully fit, it will be difficult for them to join the team for the West Indies tour. Both players will be retested next week.
Reports say that the fitness of other players in the camp, in addition to Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel, is also not up to standard.
Due to the players’ fitness issues, four more players were also made part of the red ball camp today. Kamran Ghulam, Shahzeb Khan, Rohail Nazir and Hamza Nazar have been made part of the red ball camp. Rohail Nazir is also playing a red-ball practice match today.
