LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently looking for a permanent Coach for the National Team, as the contract of the interim Coach Aqib Javed expired in February this Year.

According to reports, PCB is Willing to appoint Mike Hesson, the coach of Islamabad United, as the Head Coach for the team.

Mike Hesson has vast experience in coaching, having coached New Zealand from 2012 to 2018, guiding them to the 2015 World Cup final.  He also served as a coach for  Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Currently, the 50-year-old is the head coach of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025). His knowledge of Pakistani cricket and tactical aptitude make him an excellent choice, according to reports.

The PCB’s hunt increased when Aqib Javed’s term ended after a dismal Champions Trophy group stage streak. While Saqlain Mushtaq was considered, Hesson’s name has garnered popularity due to his established track record and previous interest from the PCB in 2019 and 2024.

However, Hesson has previously denied offers owing to other obligations, and his availability is questionable. The PCB hopes to formalize the appointment before Pakistan’s white-ball trip of New Zealand, which begins March 16, 2026.

Hesson has not made any public comments, but the PCB is anticipated to formally approach him shortly, according to reports.
