LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, a major milestone as Pakistan prepares to host the Champions Trophy after a 29-year wait.
Attended by federal ministers and assembly members, the gathering was a testament to the government mulling over sports development.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was also present at the ceremony, which pointed to the support of the provincial administration for the project.
The renovation of Gaddafi Stadium is an integral part of Pakistan’s initiatives to recreate the successful Champions Trophy, the stadium hosting seven matches including the final itself. The tournament will take place from February 19 to March 9, involving matches in Karachi and Rawalpindi as well.
