SYLHET: Pakistan bowling coach Umar Gul has rejected reports of an alleged altercation with fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, saying the incident was misunderstood on social media.
Speaking during a press conference in Sylhet, Umar Gul said he was surprised to see social media posts claiming that Shaheen Afridi was not listening to the coach’s instructions.
He explained that the situation occurred when Hasan Ali suffered an injury and was lying on the ground, while Shaheen Afridi was sitting outside the field.
According to the bowling coach, Shaheen usually tapes his knee during bowling spells and they were discussing the matter at the time.
Umar Gul said he was having a routine conversation with Shaheen when Sarfaraz Ahmed approached them and informed them that Hasan Ali had suffered a head injury.
He clarified that the situation was wrongly portrayed as a dispute, adding that nothing unusual had happened between him and the fast bowler.
The former pacer further said that the reaction seen in the viral video was natural and he was unaware that cameras were recording the moment.
The clarification came after a video clip circulated widely on social media, leading to speculation about a heated exchange between the Pakistan bowling coach and Shaheen Afridi.
