ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricket team captain Younis Khan has joined the Afghanistan cricket team as a mentor. He also gave advice to the Afghan cricketers before the warm-up match against New Zealand.
Afghanistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Naseeb Khan said about the appointment of Younis Khan, “Since the Champions Trophy is being held in Pakistan, it was necessary to assign a talented and experienced player from the host country as a mentor. We already had effective experience with mentors from host countries in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024. Considering the circumstances, we have appointed Younis Khan as the mentor of our national team for the upcoming mega event. He will remain with the team until the end of the tournament.”
It is worth noting that this is the third consecutive world tournament where the Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed a mentor for the team from the host country, with Ajay Jadeja being appointed as a mentor for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India and Dwayne Bravo as a bowling consultant for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States.
Afghanistan is in Group B of the Champions Trophy alongside Australia, England and South Africa.
