ISLAMABAD: Developers have created an experimental Xbox 360 emulator that works on both iOS and macOS systems. The project is known as XeniOS, and initial reports indicate that some games are now playable on Apple devices.

The development raises questions about whether users can realistically revisit Xbox 360-era games on iPhone, iPad, or Mac hardware. What is XeniOS? XeniOS is an emulator that enables users to play Xbox 360 games on Apple devices.

The software uses the Xenia emulator, which developers created for Windows and modified it to operate within the Apple ecosystem. The emulator operates Xbox 360 software on Apple devices because it uses Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation to run translated game code according to project documentation.

YouTube video Limitations Apple permits certain emulators to appear on the App Store, yet XeniOS cannot be distributed through that platform. The emulator must be sideloaded because it requires JIT, which Apple typically restricts for security reasons.

The software remains in alpha development, which results in limited compatibility. The developers inform users that they should anticipate crashes, which will occur along with bugs and different performance levels across various games.

Early Testing Retro gaming YouTube channel Retro Spirit published one of the first guides and gameplay tests for the emulator. The r/EmulationOniOS community shared online posts, which included examples of several titles that currently operate on the emulator, although their stability level differs.

Emulators are legal software. The user must possess legal ownership of the game when running it through the emulator. The XeniOS project attracts interest because it demonstrates greater stability than the original Xbox, which exists in its developmental phase.
