LAHORE: A few days ago, Meta announced the introduction of a username feature in WhatsApp. Usernames in WhatsApp will replace users’ phone numbers.

This will help users keep their personal phone numbers more private. The username feature has not been activated yet and will be introduced globally in the coming months.

But the option to reserve a username is now available, and users can reserve the names or usernames of their choice.

If you have not yet reserved a username, you should do so soon; otherwise, you will not be able to reserve the name of your choice.

How to reserve usernames for WhatsApp

Below, you will be able to learn how to reserve a WhatsApp username. It should be noted that usernames can only be reserved in WhatsApp’s mobile apps.

Whenever the usernames feature is available, you will be informed through a notification. To reserve a username on iPhones, open WhatsApp.

After opening WhatsApp, click on the You button at the bottom and then on Profile. There, click on the Create Username or Reserve Username option, write the username of your choice, and save it.

How to reserve usernames for WhatsApp for Androids

On Android phones, open WhatsApp and click on the three-dot menu at the top right and go to Settings.

In Settings, click on Profile and select Create Username or Reserve Username, then select your username and save it.

Like various social media networks, the username in WhatsApp must be unique, and if someone has already chosen it, you will have to choose another username.

Once you reserve a username, you can change or delete it, and someone else will be able to get it after 14 days.

Meta did not specify how many times a user can change their username, but it did indicate that there is some kind of limit.

And yes, if you don’t want a new username but want to use your Facebook or Instagram username on WhatsApp, that’s possible. Each username must be between 3 and 35 characters long.
