ISLAMABAD: Social media giant Meta has introduced a free verification badge for eligible Facebook users, allowing them to verify their accounts without paying any monthly or annual subscription fee.
According to international media reports, Meta had launched its paid Meta Verified subscription service in February 2023, offering users a blue verification badge along with additional features. The company has now introduced a new free verification system aimed at confirming the identity of genuine users.
Under the new program, users will only need to submit a selfie, which will be matched with their Facebook profile photos using advanced facial recognition technology. Meta said the verification process is expected to be completed within a few minutes.
The company stated that the free verification option is available only to users aged 18 years or older. Once the verification is successfully completed, a verification badge will appear on the user’s Facebook profile and across other supported Facebook services.
Meta clarified that the free verification badge only confirms that an account belongs to a real person. It does not verify a user’s popularity, public status, or professional credentials, and is intended solely to authenticate identity.
