MUZAFFARABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has raised strong objections to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s announcement of providing 10 electric buses to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging the AJK Election Commission to take notice during the election period.
PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari met AJK Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal and requested action over the electric buses reportedly carrying images of Maryam Nawaz.
Bukhari argued that using public resources for political purposes after the election schedule has been announced is a violation of election laws and the code of conduct.
He alleged that buses purchased with taxpayers’ money from Punjab were being used as “political inducements” to influence voters ahead of the AJK elections.
Questioning the use of the chief minister’s images on the buses, Bukhari asked whether the vehicles had been purchased through personal funds, adding that government resources should not be used to promote any political figure.
The PPP has called on the AJK Election Commission to examine the matter and ensure compliance with election rules during the ongoing electoral process.
