ISLAMABAD: High taxes imposed on premium gadgets in Pakistan have created a situation where iPhone costs have reached their highest levels, which prevents most people from buying these devices, specifically because of PTA Taxes.

The government has made a decision to change PTA tax rules, which apply to pre-owned and refurbished mobile phones, according to news reports.

The used phone market will experience additional difficulties because this development will result in increased product costs. The PTA tax increase on Apple products has created a price increase for consumers who want to purchase pre-owned iPhones.

Customs Valuation Directorate General has published new rules that affect 62 different mobile phone models that enter the country as bulk imports without their original boxes or extra parts, which will now require a complete rewrite of secondhand smartphone trading regulations.

The new system established by customs authorities now applies standard tax rates to all imported used and refurbished smartphones. The new system applies a uniform tax benchmark to all used devices, regardless of condition, meaning even heavily used or lower-grade phones will now be taxed at the same level as well-maintained units.

New PTA Tax Rates

The price of iPhone 11 will increase from Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 23,000, while the cost of iPhone 11 Pro Max will go up from Rs. 23,500 to Rs. 33,500. The price of iPhone 12 Mini will rise to Rs. 32,500, while iPhone 12 Pro will reach a total cost of Rs. 33,500.

The price of iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 will increase to Rs. 34,000, while iPhone 13 Pro Max will receive a major price increase to Rs. 53,000, which was originally Rs. 36,000.

The base model tax for the iPhone 14 series will rise from Rs. 33,000 to Rs. 37,000, while the iPhone 14 Pro will see its tax rise from Rs. 37,000 to Rs. 54,000.

The iPhone 15 lineup will undergo major changes because the iPhone 15 Pro Max will experience the highest price rise, which will take its cost from Rs. 57,500 to Rs. 100,000.
