ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that there will be four lunar eclipses during the year 2025, including two lunar (moon) and two solar (sun).
But only one lunar eclipse will be visible in Pakistan during the year.
The first total lunar eclipse, also known as a “blood moon”, will occur on March 14, 2025 at 8:57 am Pakistan time. This will be the first total lunar eclipse since November 2022, but it will not be visible in Pakistan. This eclipse will be visible in Europe, Australia, Africa, North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic and Antarctica.
The first partial solar eclipse is scheduled to occur on March 29, 2025, which will be visible from Europe, northern Asia, northern/western Africa, most parts of North America, northern South America, Atlantic and Arctic. This eclipse will also not be visible in Pakistan.
The second total lunar eclipse will give Asia a chance to witness a “blood moon”. It will begin at 08:28 on the night of September 7 and will be complete at 01:55 on the morning of September 8. This is the only lunar eclipse that can be seen in Pakistan.
The last solar eclipse of the year is a partial solar eclipse on September 21. It will be visible from the south in Australia, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, Antarctica.
When the Earth is between the sun and the moon, it casts a shadow on the surface of the moon, causing a lunar eclipse. These are interesting sights to see because they can only occur during a full moon.
A partial eclipse ends when the moon exits the umbra, moving back into the penumbra.
