ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that internet services have now been fully restored across Pakistan as submarine cables have been repaired, as the South Asian country has been facing internet slowdowns for months.

Faults in the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4 (SMW4) and Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) submarine cables have been fixed, the authority told local media.

He said the restoration of the submarine cables would eliminate the shortfall of 1750 Gbps, besides restoring internet services at full speed.

Earlier, the PTA attributed the disruption in the internet services to a fault in the two submarine cables.

The PTA also plans to add three new cables, two Transworld International cables and one PTCL cable, to the national system in the next two years, a move that will increase connectivity.
