ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun the process of licensing Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers under the Class License for the Provision of Data Services in Pakistan.

Under this initiative, PTA has already issued Class Licenses to three firms to offerVPN services. The regulator has encouraged all unlicensed VPN service providers to immediately secure the necessary Class License to ensure that they comply with the current regulatory environment.

Early licensing will prevent possible disruptions in services and guarantee uninterrupted access for their subscribers.

VPN usage has spiked in Pakistan after X (previously Twitter) was banned, placing further pressure on Pakistan‘s bandwidth and slowing internet speeds.

The response from PTA has been to report to the Ministry of IT the importance of boosting bandwidth in order to meet increasing demand for the internet.

More details on the licensing procedure, qualifications, and application forms may be accessed on the official website of the PTA (www.pta.gov.pk.).

Through VPN service regulation and infrastructural enhancement, the PTA is working to provide a smooth and efficient internet experience for users in Pakistan.
