KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an update on the Arabian Sea Depression, which is currently located near Latitude 15.6N and Longitude 64.8E in the central Arabian Sea.

The system is approximately 1,060 km southwest of Karachi, 1,080 km south of Ormara, and 1,110 km southeast of Gwadar.

Over the past 12 hours, the depression has moved west-northwestward and is expected to continue in this direction towards the Oman coast, according to a press release issued by (PMD).

Squally winds of 30-40 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, are likely to persist around the system’s center for the next two days.

Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing into deep sea areas. Fortunately, none of Pakistan’s coastal areas are currently under threat from this system.

The PMD’s cyclone warning center is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

If the system intensifies into a storm, it will be named “Dana,” as proposed by Qatar. Weather officials anticipate that the depression will strengthen into a tropical cyclone, traversing the central Arabian Sea on October 14 and 15.

In related weather forecasts, most districts in Sindh can expect hot and dry conditions on Monday. However, areas such as Karachi, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Hyderabad may experience gusty winds, dust storms, and rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Similar weather conditions are predicted for these areas on Tuesday.
