NDMA issues weather alert as rain, winds expected in multiple regions

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert of rain, wind, storm, and flooding at several places across the country from July 6 to 10.

A rain with a windstorm is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, according to the NDMA spokesperson.

Rain with strong winds is expected at several places in Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there is a possibility of heavy rain with thundershowers in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Battagram, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Haripur, Bannu, Kohat

Heavy rain is likely in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astur, Diamer, Ganchhe, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Haveli, Bagh, and possible flood situations.

Sukkur, Nawabshah, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Karachi, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allah Yar, Thatta, Badin, Mithi, also forecast rains.

Heavy rain is also expected in Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu.

Rain is likely in the cities of Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, Jafarabad, Kohlu, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Lasbela, Naseerabad in Balochistan.

Rains may cause flooding in urban areas

According to NDMA, heavy rains are likely to cause urban flooding, landslides, power outages, and affect traffic flow on roads. The NDMA has advised citizens to stay away from weak structures, mud walls, electricity poles, and billboards during rain and strong winds.

Rains cause a sudden increase in the flow of water in local rivers and visibility may also be reduced during wind and storms, which can lead to accidents, the NDMA added.

NDMA has issued instructions to all relevant agencies to ensure advance measures to deal with any possible emergency. The public is urged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App to stay informed about weather and potential hazards.
