ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a warning on Wednesday in Pakistan. The organization issued an alert to authorities about a severe monsoon season that will occur in 2026.

Officials announced that a powerful Super El Niño event will bring changes to weather systems. The scientists predict that the country will experience more intense rainfall events, which will occur more frequently.

The NDMA officials predict that sudden cloudbursts will bring severe downpours. The warning indicated that some regions would experience rainfall equivalent to a month within a period of one to two days.

Dr Tayyab, who works as a technical expert, conducted an interview with local media. He said this monsoon will differ from previous years. He explained that different regions will experience different amounts of precipitation. He explained that Sindh and Balochistan will experience below-average precipitation.

The other regions of the area will experience heavy rainfall events. The northern regions experienced higher temperatures at the same time. Officials raised their concerns because they anticipated extreme weather patterns that would create hazardous conditions.

Authorities found that the Indus River system now faces an increased risk of flooding. The authorities reported that this season the Indus River system faces greater flood risk than the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. The NDMA issued a complete advisory to all provincial governments.

The document explained emergency response procedures which included necessary equipment and methods for inter-agency coordination.

The officials stated that they continuously assess their emergency response strategies. The officials maintain their operational readiness to handle flood emergencies, which may occur during the monsoon season.
