Boiler explosion kills 10 workers in Chhattisgarh power plant

CHHATTISGARH: At least 10 workers were killed and more than 15 were injured in a boiler explosion at a power plant in Sakti district of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.

According to the police, the accident occurred on Tuesday at the Sanghi Terai power plant, and some people are feared to be buried under the rubble.

Rescue teams, local administration, and police reached the spot immediately after the accident, and relief operations were started. According to the authorities, the search and rescue operation for the missing persons is going on rapidly.

The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals where they are being given medical assistance.

According to the company’s spokesperson, the explosion took place in a boiler unit of its Sanghi Terai plant, which also included employees of its subcontractor who oversee the operation and maintenance work at the plant.

The spokesperson said that the company’s top priority is to provide the best medical facilities to the injured and is fully cooperating with the affected people.

He added that a thorough investigation has been launched in collaboration with the relevant agencies to find out the reasons for the incident. The company expressed its condolences over the accident and also expressed its sympathy to the affected families.

This plant is important for meeting the energy needs at the local level and a large number of subcontractors and employees are working in it to run various technical processes.
