Islamabad: China’s President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang extended congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. President Xi Jinping expressed confidence in Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and the collective efforts of Pakistan’s new government, anticipating significant progress in the nation’s development.
President Xi emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening the longstanding friendship between China and Pakistan, enhancing cooperation across various sectors, and advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He reiterated China’s commitment to deepening the strategic cooperative partnership and fostering a closer community between the two countries for mutual benefit.

Premier Li Qiang also conveyed his congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on behalf of the State Council. Shehbaz Sharif secured victory in the National Assembly by obtaining 201 votes, defeating his opponent Omar Ayub Khan from the Sunni Ittehad Council, who received 92 votes. Shehbaz Sharif’s win was expected with the support of MQM-P, IPP, and PPP.
