Finland declared happiest country for 9th Consecutive Year; Pakistan improves ranking

NEW YORK: On the occasion of the International Day of Happiness, the latest global happiness rankings have been released with the support of the United Nations, once again placing Finland at the top for the ninth consecutive year.

The report, based on data from the Gallup World Poll covering the period from 2023 to 2025, evaluated 147 countries to provide a stable global assessment of well-being. Key factors considered in the rankings include per capita income, life expectancy, social support, freedom, generosity, and corruption levels.

According to the rankings, Iceland secured the second position, overtaking Denmark, which placed third, followed by Costa Rica, Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Israel, Luxembourg, and Switzerland completed the top 10 list.

Pakistan ranked 104th on the list, showing an improvement of five positions compared to last year’s 109th place, while India lagged behind at 116th. Among Muslim-majority countries, Kosovo emerged as the happiest nation, ranking 16th overall, followed by the United Arab Emirates at 21st and Saudi Arabia at 22nd. Notably, the United States was placed 23rd.

At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan was ranked the least happy country in the world at 147th, followed by Sierra Leone, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.

Other countries among the least happy include Yemen, Lebanon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, and Tanzania, highlighting significant global disparities in quality of life and overall well-being.
