factory knife attack
JAPAN: At least 14 people were injured in a horrific knife attack at an industrial factory in Japan.
According to Japanese media, the incident occurred suddenly, causing severe panic among employees working in the factory. The injured were immediately transferred to a nearby hospital, where the condition of several people is said to be critical, but no casualties have been confirmed.
Rescue and police officials say that the attacker used a spray-like liquid along with a knife, causing several people to have difficulty breathing and eye irritation.
Authorities are obtaining samples to determine the nature of the spray to determine whether it was a chemical substance or ordinary pepper spray.
According to police, a suspect was arrested immediately after the incident and charged with attempted murder. Japanese media say the arrested suspect is under investigation and police are investigating whether the attack was the result of personal enmity or other motives.
Initial investigations have revealed that the attack took place inside the factory during working hours, which affected a large number of people. Police have tightened security around the factory and cordoned off the scene to collect evidence.
Incidents of this nature are rare in Japan, which has raised public concern. Authorities have assured citizens that a full and transparent investigation will be conducted into the incident and those responsible will be severely punished according to the law. More details are likely to emerge after the investigation is completed.
