ISLAMABAD: A video showing French President Emmanuel Macron allegedly being slapped by his wife Brigitte Macron during an official visit to Vietnam has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
According to international media reports, the incident occurred as President Macron arrived in Vietnam to begin his tour of Southeast Asia. As he was getting off the plane, Brigitte appeared to slap or push him in the face, and the moment was caught on camera.
The video also shows that when Macron extended his arm as he disembarked, his wife noticeably chose not to grab it – fueling online speculation.
Initially, French authorities dismissed the video as a fake, but later admitted it was real, describing the gesture as a lighthearted moment. “It was a moment of intimacy,” an Elysee Palace spokesman said, downplaying the incident.
French media reported that the presidential office initially denied the authenticity of the footage but later confirmed its legality. Sky News quoted sources as saying that the exchange was a minor disagreement between the couple, not a fight, and should not be misinterpreted.
President Macron and Brigitte, who have been married since 2007, are often in the public eye, and their relationship remains a subject of media interest.
